The Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the United Kingdom established formal diplomatic ties in 1973. Relations between the two countries have grown significantly during the last few decades. The first-ever UK-Vietnam Strategic Partnership was signed in 2010, paving the way for increased bilateral cooperation in many areas such as political development, trade and investment, security and defence, science and technology, healthcare, and education.
Previously, in December 2020, the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) was signed, and in the first seven months of 2021, total two-way trade between these two countries reached to 3.88 billion USD, a 27.07 percent increase over the same time in 2020.
NOTE: Total Trade in 2021 (goods and services) indicated to the four quarters to the end of Q2 2021.
