Three years ago, on 7 December 2023, the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, received the credentials of the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to ASEAN, Ms. Sarah Tiffin, as the second dedicated and first female UK Ambassador to ASEAN.
During her mission, Ambassador Sarah Tiffin paved the way for the implementation of the ASEAN-UK Plan of Action (2022-2026), coordinating the ongoing participation of the UK Foreign Secretary in the ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference with the United Kingdom for three times in Indonesia, Laos, and Malaysia, following the first time the FCDO Secretary partook in the meeting in July 2023 in Jakarta, with facilitation from former UK Ambassador to ASEAN, Mr. Jon Lambe.
She also worked to elevate the ASEAN-UK relationship to an Enhanced Partnership. This included establishing a Maritime Dialogue and facilitating visits and exchanges between foreign secretaries from both sides, promoting closer diplomatic and strategic cooperation. The five main UK priorities in its partnership with ASEAN are: Supporting the Advancement of Girls' Education (SAGE), ASEAN-UK Economic Integration Programme (EIP), ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund (GTF), ASEAN-UK Health Security Partnership (HSP), and the ASEAN-UK Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Programme.
The ASEAN-UK Young Leaders Initiative (ASEANUK-YLI) team extends our heartfelt gratitude for his dedicated efforts and remarkable achievements, along with our warm farewell wishes. We wish you endless success in your future endeavors and the best of luck.
