Understanding Philippines-UK Relations

The Republic of the Philippines and the United Kingdom established formal diplomatic relations in 1946. Since then, both governments have had major progress in strengthening political, economic, cultural, and social relations. In 2012, the Philippines-UK Joint Action Plan was signed in Manila aimed to cooperate on five areas (1) politics; (2) economics; (3) consular and law enforcement; (4) culture; and (5) regional and global issues.

The Republic of the Philippines and the United Kingdom celebrated the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2021. At the same time, the number of high-level visits to Manila and London has increased. In late 2021, both countries launched the Philippine-UK Enhanced Partnership to develop closer bilateral cooperation on mutual common interests.
