On 13 June 2025, the ASEAN-UK YLI team made a virtual courtesy call to the Deputy High Commissioner of the Malaysian High Commission in London, Mr. Mohiuddin Ghazali. During the meeting, Mr. Chhuon Vanndasambath, along with Mr. Thri Shri, Deputy General Coordinator, and Ms. Chhoeun Yutathavy, Programme Coordinator, introduced ASEAN-UK YLI and discussed our ongoing project to strengthen ASEAN-UK relations, including those between Malaysia and the UK.
DHC Mohiuddin Ghazali spoke about the recent progress between Malaysia and the UK, highlighting priorities and mutual interests. He emphasized the strong partnership between the UK and Malaysia in areas such as science, technology, sustainability, innovation, research, energy, and education, as well as trade and economics.
We also exchanged views on the recent visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to the UK and his meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on 15 January 2025, to review the Malaysia-UK bilateral relations and discuss efforts to enhance collaboration and ASEAN-UK relations.
Mr. Vanndasambath also highlighted the significance of Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship this year as a pivotal moment, hosting the 4th ASEAN-UK Ministerial Meeting in Kuala Lumpur. This event will serve as an opportunity to revisit and reaffirm the strong ties between the two regions.
They both discussed the importance of engaging youth and building foundational awareness of these relations. We look forward to future engagement with the Malaysian High Commission in London to foster understanding of Malaysia-UK relations and expand the youth network with Malaysian, ASEAN, and UK youth.
