Meeting with Her Excellency Helen Fazey, the UK Ambassador to ASEAN

On November 7, 2025, ASEAN-UK Young Leaders Initiative team met with Her Excellency Helen Fazey, the UK Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the UK Mission to ASEAN, based in Jakarta.

During the meeting, Ambassador Fazey warmly welcomed the group for their active involvement in promoting ASEAN-UK relations. Mr. Vanndasambath then introduced the project to Ambassador Fazey, explaining that ASEAN-UK YLI aims to strengthen relations through youth diplomacy, dialogue, and research within ASEAN and the UK, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

The discussion noted that both the ASEAN-UK Dialogue Partnership and ASEAN-UK YLI are approaching their 5th anniversary, since their establishment in July 2021, just a month before the UK became the 11th ASEAN Dialogue Partner. To date, we have established relationships with numerous embassies in ASEAN and the UK.

Ambassador Fazey then shared insights on ASEAN-UK relations and outlined plans for the anniversary, including a new 5-year Plan of Action. We also discussed the future initiatives, including collaboration with the UK Mission to ASEAN to boost awareness, youth diplomacy events, and a potential research paper on the progress and future of ASEAN-UK relations.

Prior to this meeting, we had the honour of engaging with her predecessors, continuing our productive interactions with the UK Mission to ASEAN from previous engagement. We sincerely thank the UK Mission to ASEAN for their unwavering support, which has provided a valuable platform for meaningful discussions. Our team is optimistic that this promising and thriving between ASEAN and the UK will grow in the years to come.
