Courtesy Call with the High Commission of the Republic of Singapore to the United Kingdom

On Tuesday, 8 July 2025, the ASEAN-UK Young Leaders Initiative (ASEAN-UK YLI) paid a virtual courtesy call on the High Commission of the Republic of Singapore in London, United Kingdom, with the presence of Mr. Basil Ting, First Secretary (in charge of Political).

During the meeting, the ASEAN-UK YLI team introduced their youth-led project to the First Secretary of the High Commission. Both sides discussed the bilateral relations between Singapore and the UK, as they entered 60th anniversary this year. They also exchanged views on ASEAN-UK relations, discussing the position and motivation of the UK in the region.

Mr. Basil provided interesting insights covering economic cooperation, defence, security and foreign policy, climate action, sustainability, green economy and green partnership, research, STI, and public sector collaboration, which are laid out within the framework of strategic partnership and recent high-level visits between both countries.

Furthermore, our team shared the plans to organise events commemorating the 60 years of partnership between Singapore and the UK, aiming to raise awareness among youth, researchers, academia, and the general public.
